Founders' Message

In 1992, our son entered a wonderful preschool in our town and, as parents, we were delighted to see the impact this experience had on both his academic and social learning.  Reading-up, we learned that preschool makes a tremendous difference in a child’s life as it comes at a time before we, as adults, build the walls that restrict this learning.

Had we had another child or two, somehow we would have offered them the same opportunity as our only child.  But we didn’t have another child so we decided to fund the tuition for families that shared our passion for education, but didn’t have the means to pay for the cost of a quality preschool.  Soon, we asked friends and business associates to join us to sponsor more children – and so Project Acorn was born. This year, 80 children will be placed among 19 local preschools.

In the years since, Project Acorn has become a non-profit, 501(c)3 in the State of New Jersey with hundreds  of committed donors, a dedicated and focused Board of Trustees, numerous volunteers, and a small staff. 

As of September 2009, Project Acorn has funded the preschool foundation of a total of 500 children - many of them for two years!
